Basom, 63, died Monday evening at Ionia County Memorial hospital where he was a patient since Friday. He was a lifelong resident of Ionia and Ionia county and lived at 443 Nicholson street. Mr. Basom was born in Ronald township, December 21, 1898, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Basom, and attended Ionia schools. He was employed at Hayes Body in Ionia and Grand Rapids and for a number of years worked at Ionia Manufacturing company as a timekeeper. For many years preceding his illness he worked in material control. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose, Ionia lodge. Surviving are his wife, the former Vera Dargitz to whom he was married July 7, 1944 in Ionia; a brother, Lee Basom of Six Lakes; two sisters, Mrs. Van Dye of Ionia, and Mrs. Louis Gazella of Freeport; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ray Edwards of Ionia; two nephews and two nieces. Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at Phelps funeral chapel and interment will be at Easton cemetery.
