Lake Odessa Wave – Friday 20 April 1894
Mrs. Albert Bassler of Sebewa had a trifling stomach trouble and on the advise 
of the woman who knows so much more than the doctors and who exists in every 
school district in this broad republic, she began taking a few drops of 
undiluted carbolic acid three times a day.  Unfortunately Mrs. Bassler is 
dead, the coating of her stomach having been destroyed by the deadly remedy, 
but the woman who prescribes carbolic acid, paris green and arsenic as 
pleasant spring tonics is still spared to pursue her career of usefulness. – 
Grand Rapids Democrat.
