M. F. Wolverton, who preached the sermon assisted by Rev. John Batdorff, a cousin of Mr. Batdorff. All the children were at the bedside when the death angel came Friday, July 18, Their father had been in very poor health since a severe illness in December at Clyde’s home in Lansing and as soon as they received the message early in the week that he was worse they came to be with him in his last hours. They are E. M. of Rudyard, Frank of the “Soo,” Claud and Mae of Grand Rapids and Clyde of Lansing. The granddaughter Lorraine Adams was also present and Albert Curtis, a brother-in-law. Those attending the funeral from away, beside the children, were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fashbaugh of Belding, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fashbaugh, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dailey of Delta, Ohio, Mrs. Maude Tonto of Toledo, Ohio, Willis Strothers of Latta, Ohio, Walter Strothers of Lansing, Rev. John Batdorff, father and daughter of Sunfield, Albert Curtis of Kinross, and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Spencer of Detroit. All hearts were filled with sadness Monday when they fully realized it was the last time they would ever all meet in the home of their parents. Claud, Clyde and their families went to their respective homes that night; E. M., Frank and their wives left Tuesday for their homes in the northern peninsula; Mrs. McKee and Miss Adams are remaining till Friday. Obituary of Eli Batdorff Eli Batdorff was born in Fulton county, Ohio, September 23, 1848, and died at his home in Lake Odessa, July 18, 1930. He came to Michigan in the spring of 1867 and was united in marriage to Lathera S. Curtis, October 8, 1867. They returned to Fulton county, Ohio, where they lived two years, then came to Odessa township and bought the farm where they lived till 1908 when they moved to Lake Odessa. He was a member of the West Odessa church for several years and later joined the Liberal U.B. church here in the village. After leaving the farm he clerked for a few years, they was employed at the greenhouse where he worked for Miss Edna Steele ten years. He was quiet and retiring, but a dependable neighbor and friend, always standing for the right.
