Mother of Eight Children Laid to Rest by Loving Hands. For several weeks the life of Mrs. Latheria Batdorff hung in the balance from that dreaded disease pneumonia, but although medical care had cleared up the lungs, the age and weakness of the body could not further carry on and she passed away last week Tuesday at her home on Jordan Lake avenue. Mrs. Batdorff did her bit in the work of the world. She gently guided children and friends by her loving and patient ways and was ever an inspiration to uprightness. She was tenderly cared for in her last illness by the best medical attention, but the body was worn out. The funeral was held Thursday at the First U. B. church, Rev. J. F. Wolverton, the pastor, preached and a quartette composed of George Kart, William Chipchase, Merlin Morgan and Stanley Dann accompanied by Morley Hough furnished the music. Burial was at Lakeside cemetery. Obituary of Mrs. Eli Batdorff Latheria S. Curtis was born in Fulton county, Ohio, November 7, 1818, and died at her home in Lake Odessa, April 8, 1930. She came with her parents to Michigan in the spring of 1867 and was united in marriage at Bonanza to Eli Batdorff of Delta, Ohio, October 8, 1867. They made their home near Delta in their old home neighborhood until the fall of 1869, when they returned to Michigan, locating on a farm in Odessa township, where they lived until November, 1908, when they moved to Lake Odessa. God blessed their home with eight children, two of which, Emily and Artie, died in infancy, and Ivah (Mrs. Clarence Adams) died in 1919. Those who survive their mother are: Emmerson M. of Rudyard, Frank H. of Sault Saint Marie, Mrs. Mae McKee and Claud E. of Grand Rapids, and Clyde C. of Lansing. Besides the children she leaves the husband Mr. Eli Batdorff, three brothers William Curtis of Odessa township, Alfred Curtis of Dafter and Albert Curtis of Kinross, seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and countless friends who miss her greatly. She gave her heart to the Lord when she was a young girl and united with a church at Delta, O., transferring her membership later to the West Odessa United Brethren church. She trusted wholly in her Savior and lived a consistent spirit-filled life, always interested in the work of Christ’s kingdom on earth. She was an ideal mother, ever loving and sympathetic, and a helpful friend. The young, as well as the middle-aged and old, came to her for comfort and council in times of sorrow, disappointment or trouble. Although hearts are sad and lonely they have the assurance that she is with the Savior she loved and served.
