Charles W. Bateman, 81, of 2597 David Highway, Saranac, died Sunday evening at 
home.  He was born in Ontonagon County June 6, 1899, the son of William and 
Cora Moshier Bateman.  He worked as a foreman for the Grand Trunk Railroad, 
and lived in Port Huron before moving to Saranac 1½ years ago.  

He married Helen Caughill June 21, 1922 and she preceded him in death in 1979.

Survivors include one son, The Rev. S. Charles Bateman, of Ionia; seven 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Lake Funeral Home with 
the Rev. Elton Mills officiating.  A burial service will be conducted at 3 
p.m. from the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Port Huron.  Memorial contributions 
can be made to the American Cancer Society.
