Feb. 16, 1976 BELDING - Leota C. Bates, 81, died unexpectedly Friday at her home at 304 South Pearl. She was born in Bellview December 17, 1894. A member of the Belding First United Methodist church she also belonged to the Washington club, was a life member of the Doric chapter of Order of Eastern Star, member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Women's Literary club of Belding. She was a graduate of Central Michigan University at Mt. Pleasant, former choir director and organist of the church several years and formerly active in musical groups throughout the state. She taught piano and organ in her home. her husband Eston L. Bates died May 29, 1956. Among her survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Mary Helen Feighner of Grosse Pointe Woods; and sister, Mrs. Winifred Charnley of Lakeview. Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 pm at the Charles M. Courser funeral home in Belding. Rev. Eugene A. Lewis and Rev. Luther Brokaw will officiate and interment will be at River Ridge cemetery, Belding. Family members will be at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 8:30. A memorial has been established for the Belding First United Methodist church of the Belding library.
