Eston L. Bates, 62, retired Belding business man and a member of the Michigan 
department of revenue, died Tuesday night at his home following a heart attack.

A former chairman of the Ionia  county republican committee, Bates operated a 
drug store at Belding from 1926 to 1937.  Before that he operated a drug store 
at Edmore.  At the time of his death he was supervisor of industrial audits of 
the state revenue department.

He is survived by his wife Leota; and a daughter, Mrs. Bruce Frighner of Royal 
Oak. 

Funeral services are to be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Fitzjohn funeral 
home at Belding.  Interment will be at River Ridge cemetery.  Graveside 
ceremonies will be by the Masonic lodge.
