Batson was born in Brant Co., Canada, March 6, 1844. When ten years of age his parents moved to Ionia Co., Michigan. When 21 years of age he was married to Miss Emily Smith. A few months later he moved onto the farm where he has since lived and where he died April 7, 1904, aged sixty years, one month and one day. The immediate survivors of the deceased are a widow, two brothers and three sisters, a half brother and a number of other relatives and a host of warm friends which mourn the loss of a kind husband and citizen. The principal characteristic of the Batson family are courtesy, integrity and hospitality, in all of which Harvey was an exemplary representative, kind hearted, upright and strictly honorable. No clouds ever darkened the fair fame of Harvey Batson. The funeral was held at the late residence Sunday, Rev. A. B. Johnson of Saranac officiating and the interment in the Pinckney cemetery. Mr. and Will Batson of Big Rapids and Tom Batson of Freeport was called here by the death of their brother.
