BATSON, EMILY (SMITH) (MRS. HARVEY):
   Local Newspaper, 4-11-1923, page 8:  "Mrs. H. H. Batson, one of the old
residents of Keene, passed away Friday at the home of Mrs. Orin Green."

   SARANAC ADVERTISER, MI, 4-11-1923:  "OBITUARY - Emily Smith, daughter of
Asaph C. and Lorenda Smith, was born Oct. 18th, 1843 in Keene township, Ionia
county, Michigan.
   She was united in marriage to Harvey H. Batson Oct. 15, 1865, and to this
union one son was born which died in infancy.  The husband departed this life
April 7th, 1904, the widow remaining at the old home where she went as a bride
58 years ago.  About 50 years ago Mrs. Batson united with Keene Methodist Church
and has always been a faithful member of the church.
   In November, '22, she came to Saranac to spend the winter months and departed
this life April 6, 1923.  She leaves to mour her loss numerous nieces, nephews,
friends, and neighbors.  She was loved and respected by all.
   Mrs. Batson is among those of whom it may be said, "Blessed are the dead
which die in the Lord from henceforth:  Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may
rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
   Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday afternoon
at 2:30 p.m., Rev. W. L. Halladay officiating."
