She was born on August 5, 1924 in St. Louis, MI. Mrs. Bauer was the secretary and bookkeeper for Bauer Lumber Co. in Portland for 30 years, and she also scheduled surgeries at St. Lawrence Hospital for 10 years, retiring from that in 1979. Anne was a mother, a girl scout leader, as well as an active grandmother. She was a volunteer in the emergency room at Bon Secours Hospital in Venice, Florida for 20 years, through 2004, and was an active volunteer for 24 years in Bay Indies resort in Venice. Anne liked to do crossword puzzles, loved square, round and ballroom dancing, and she also loved to entertain and travel, going on many trips serving as escort with her husband for Sarasota Travel for many years. She spent the last 25 years in the Bay Indies resort community but spent every summer in Portland through 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her husband, Joseph L. Bauer; children, Colleen (Howard) Hatch of Gaylord, MI, Jack, (Sue) Bauer of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, and Dawn Sparks of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2005 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Portland, with the Rev. Larry King, Pastor presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. Complete arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
