He was born on May 14, 1925 in Portland, MI the son of George and Katherine (Bates) Bauer. The Fisherman’s Prayer... "I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day, and when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray...when in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep...that in His mercy I'll be judged...big enough to keep." Mr. Bauer was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was also a lifetime member of the Portland V.F.W. Post # 4090, as well as the Conservation Club. Eddie was also a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Portland. He worked at T.R.W. in Portland for 35 years before retiring in 1983, and was a baseball legend in Portland, being instrumental in the building of the Bud Plant field. Eddie enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and building bird houses for family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Georgia Wright; brother, Jack Bauer. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Freda Bauer of Portland; children, Neil (Lori) Bauer of Portland, Carl (Andra) Bauer of Portland, Nancy Ingram of Grand Rapids, Cathy (Keith) Gilliver of Dimondale, Jane (Steve) Bell of Lansing, Dave (special friend Beverly) Bauer of Portland and Patricia (Mark) Martens of St. Johns; grandchildren, Lisa (Courtney) Hill, Joseph, Alison and Alivia Bauer, and Lindsey and Ashley (Chris) Ingram-Kliewer, David and Julie Bell, John, Anson and Zachary Martens; great granddaughter, Madeliene Hill; 1 great grandson on the way; sisters, Barbara (Gilbert) Hutchings of Orlando, FL and Betty (Lee) Lockwood of Treasure Island, FL; sister-in-law, Edith Bauer of Tacoma, WA. The Memorial Mass was held November 28 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Portland, with the Rev. Larry King, Pastor, presiding. Rite of Committal followed at Portland Cemetery, with Military Graveside Honors provided by the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. Arrangements were handled by Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
