A. Baxter died at her home, 442 High Street, at 4:10 Monday morning, September 16. She had been ill for two years and in bed the greater part of the time since last April. Deceased, whose maiden name was Bertha Riker, was born in Elwell, Mich., in 1882 and would have been 53 years old Friday, September 20. She was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth and James Madison Riker. For many years after the death of her parents, Mrs. Baxter lived near Pewamo with a sister, Mrs. Hattie B. Tyler, who gave her and her twin sister, Mrs. L. J. Irving, a mother’s care. Mrs. Tyler and a brother, George Riker, died several years ago. Mrs. Baxter came to Ionia about 35 years ago and in 1902 was united in marriage with Arthur A. Baxter, now Ionia postmaster. Besides her husband, Mrs. Baxter is survived by her twin sister, Mrs. Irving, of Detroit, who has been with her much of the time during her illness; a step- daughter, Mrs. Ruth Newman, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted by Mrs. F. Allen leader of the Christian Science church, and Rev. Paul L. Stewart, of the Church of Christ, this afternoon from the Bradley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.
