Baxter died at his home in Palo Saturday, aged 74, and was buried Tuesday in the Palo cemetery. His wife and daughter, Mrs. Lena VanNornum are left to mourn, beside several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church of which Mr. Baxter was a member and was in charge of Rev. Bell, pastor of the M.E. church, and addresses were made by Rev. Salyer, pastor of the Baptist church, Rev. Crawford and Rev. McGinnis, former pastors of the deceased. The church was filled. The out of town friends in attendance were Burt Baxter from Grand Rapids, Mrs. Stella Corey of Grand Rapids, Katie and Helen Baxter, also of Grand Rapids. The deceased was for fifty years a Master Mason and forty years a Knight Templar. He was a charter member of the Palo chapter No. 204 O.E.S. He became a member of the Lyons chapter No. 178 of Royal Arch Masons, and shortly after became a member of Ionia Commandery No. 11. Members of the local branches of the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges escorted the remains to the cemetery.
