Bayard, one of Ionia’s prominent pioneer residents, is dead of pneumonia, after a ten days’ illness. He was 81 years old, and a native of New York, coming to Michigan with his parents sixty years ago. He settled in Ionia in 1857 and has since resided there. Dr. Bayard had large property interests in the city and county, and was a public-spirited man in his active days, being one of the foremost promoters of the old Detroit, Lansing & Lake Michigan railroad, now the Pere Marquette, and various other enterprises.
