Ervin R. Baylis, 100, of Belding, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998 at his
residence.  He was born Oct. 2, 1897 in Clinton County, to Willard and Jennie
Monroe Baylis.  He retired in 1964 after 20 years as a crew leader with
Mitchell-Bentley Corp, in Ionia.  He was married Oct. 21, 1924, in St. Johns to
Doris F. Kuhns.  She preceded him in death on September 30, 1984.

He is survived by his children, Evelyn Sherwood, Jack and Emily Baylis, Lloyd
and JoAnn Baylis, all of Belding, Betty and Ron Vining of Kalamazoo, Diana and
Vern Rowley, Tom and Judy Baylis, all of Ionia, Richard and Gloria Baylis of
Detour, John and Debra Baylis of Saranac; many grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in
death by one son, Dale, in 1940, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be Thursday, at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home,
Belding, with Pastor Kenneth Harger officiating.  Interment will be at Eureka
Cemetery in Clinton County.  Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to
9 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorial may be made to Hospice Visiting Nurse
Association.
