Ionia Sentinel Standard, 21 Dec 1964

Ernest L. J. Beard, 79, died Saturday afternoon at his route two, Lake Odessa 
home.  He was born November 26, 1885 and spent his entire life on the farm on 
Bippley road in Odessa township.  His parents were William L. and Clarissa 
Morrow Beard.

Mr. Beard was married in Ionia July 24, 1911 to Alice V. Durkee.  She died 
December 25, 1957.  He was a member of Central Methodist church and Lake Odessa 
Co-op association and at the time of his death was a semi-retired farmer.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Duward Strong of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Royce 
Brooke of Ada; five sons, Herbert and Walter Beard of Lansing, Edgar of 
Charlotte, Carl of Grand Ledge and Robert of rural Lake Odessa; 23 grand and 
five great-grandchildren.  

The body is at Pickens funeral chapel where service will be conducted Tuesday 
at 1:30 p.m.  The Rev. Luther Brokaw will officiate and interment will be at 
Lakeside cemetery.
