Mavis Jean Beard, 86, of Portland, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013.  She 
was born on May 6, 1927 in Jackson the daughter of Dale and Alice Bills.  Mavis 
enjoyed working on arts, crafts and ceramics.  She worked for the Chrysler Trim 
Plant in Lyons and Barley-Earhart in Portland.  Mavis was a proud member of the 
V.F.W. Post #4090 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: David, 
Joseph, and Howard Bills and Marvin Thrasher.  Surviving are her husband of 65 
years, William J. Beard.  Mavis is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be conducted by Pastor Nancy Patera, Easton United 
Methodist Church, at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at the Lehman funeral 
Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland.  Interment will follow at Portland 
Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday at the 
funeral home.
