WELL KNOWN, FAITHFUL OLD VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR. ------------ Another of the few remaining Civil War residents of this section answered the Great Roll Call last Saturday when James Beard passed from this earthly life to the life beyond. The funeral was held at the Liberal U. B. church and Rev. Isaac Mourer preached. Burial was at Lakeside. OBITUARY James H. Beard was born in Ohio, Apri 27, 1845, and died December 6, 1919, aged 74 years, 7 months and 9 days. He moved with his parents to Michigan in 1852 locating at Woodbridge, Hillsdale county, where he lived until his enlistment in the Union army in 1862. He served until the end of the war. He came to Odessa in February, 1871, where he was married to Sarah Elizabeth Wicoff April 27, 1876, she living only one year after. In November 1878 he was married to Mrs. Ellen Wade of Gratton. To this union were born two children, Emma May who died in childhood and Rose Ella Meyers of Sebewa. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, one daughter, four grand children, one step-grand daughter whom he reared from infancy, one brother William of Odessa, two sisters Mrs. Susan Anway of Ionia and Mrs. Lydia Reed of Grand Ledge and a host of friends. He was converted at the West Odessa church in 1876 and has lived a consistent Christian life and was prepared for the great change which he knew was to come. --------------- CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank our neighbors and friends for their kindness during the illness and death of our dear husband and father also for the beautiful flowers, the singing and the minister for his kind words.
