Beattie died at his home in Athens, Ala., Saturday, Sept 6, of a heart attack. He was born in Ionia, Sept 4, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Beattie. He worked for Charles Bradley during his early years in the undertaking business and was with Mr. Bradley at the time of the Salem wreck, leaving Ionia soon after that to make his home in Alabama. At the time of his death he was mortician for the Fry Company of Athens. Surviving are his widow, Evelyn; two sons, Robert, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Ernest, of Athens; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Reed of Orange, Texas, and Mrs. Eugene Hatfield, of Birmingham, Ala.; his father, John C. Beattie, and a brother, John Beattie, Jr., of Clarksville; four sisters, Mrs. Edith Deitz, of California; Mrs. Grace Elliott, of Grand Rapids; Mrs. Alice Austin of Upper Sandusky, O., and Mrs. Nancy Sperry, of St. Charles, Ill. Lenore, another sister, died in Los Angeles, Calif., last December. Mrs. Elliott and Mrs. Austin left Michigan Sunday to attend the funeral which was held in Athens, Wednesday.
