Mr. Beck died suddenly at his home Tuesday noon after he had contracted pneumonia which developed from a severe cold which he caught less than two days ago. He died so suddenly that one of his daughters who lives in Chicago reached the bedside of her father an hour after his death. Mr. Beck had been a resident of Ionia for about 24 years and had been employed at the Stafford factory for 15 years and at the Hayes-Ionia Body plant for two years. Until a few days ago he had been unemployed since the closing of the Hayes plant. He succeeded in securing a position as pipefitter at the Stafford-Johnson recently. Born in Germany in 1859 Mr. Beck came first to Cleveland, O., and later moved to Chicago where he met and married Miss Barbara Hass, of Chicago, in 1911. They then moved to Ionia and have since lived here. While a resident of Germany, Mr. Beck was a soldier in the German army for three years. Mr. Beck was affiliated with the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran church of Ionia, in which he had been an active worker. Surviving are the widow and three children, Mrs. Peter Schleich, of Chicago, and Anna and Elizabeth, also of Chicago, one grandson, and three brothers, Philip, of New York city, Fred, living in Germany, and Chris, of Ionia. Funeral arrangements had not been made. ------------ Prayer services for John Beck, who died Tuesday, December 24, at his home, 643 North Jefferson street, will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the home, and funeral services at the St. John’s Lutheran church at 2 o’clock, and interment at Highland Park cemetery.
