Becker, 92, of Belding, passed away Friday evening, Jan. 19, 2006, at Crystal Manor in Grand Rapids. Thelma was born July 14, 1914, in Sherman, the daughter of Morris Henry and Olive Walker Becker. Thelma was a longtime Belding resident and had retired from Leppink’s Grocery after many years of service. Thelma was a classy little lady who had a grace and style all her own. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Bessie Becker; her brothers, Eber, Alfred, Morris and Garth; one sister, Louise Newell; and longtime friend, Ethelyn Childs. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Arthur Newell of Cedar Springs; her special nieces, Wendy Becker, Jane Bridenstein, Pat Callahan; special friends and their families, Robert and Alice Childs of Belding, Richard and Gaye Huizenga of Belmont; many other nieces and nephews and their families; and many others who called her “Grandma.” Funeral services are noon Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. Visitation is one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Belding Museum or the American Heart Association. A special thanks to the employees of Crystal Manor who cared for Thelma like family and made her feel at home, and to the nurses and staff at Heartland Hospice.
