Beckhorn, 73, of Ionia died Monday at a nursing home in St. Johns. Born July 25, 1915, in St. Johns, she was the daughter of John and Alma Stoye Ernst. She attended Mattison rural school in Ronald Township. She worked at A.C. Sparkplug in Ionia during World War II and then for several years at a variety store before beginning work at Ionia County National Bank where she was employed for almost twenty years before her retirement in 1978. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Club, Ronald Grange, St. John’s Lutheran Church, and Ionia County Historical Society. She is survived by a foster brother, Walter Lemmien of Galesburg; four brothers, Clarence and Edward of St. Johns, John of Chase, and William of Battle Creek; a sister, Iva Schafer of Lansing; and one brother in law, Edwin Mohnke of St. Johns. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Cook Funeral Home, with the Rev. Theodore Voll officiating. Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. A memorial for the Alzheimer’s Foundation has been established, in care of the funeral home.
