Ionia Sentinel Standard, 15 Oct 1979

Retired Ionia City Fireman Frank J. Beckhorn, 86, died Saturday night at the
Ionia County Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Meringo, Ill. July 7, 1893, the
son of Harvey and Melvina Gates Beckhorn.

Mr. Beckhorn moved to Michigan and made his home in Ithaca before moving to
Ionia.  He was married to Emily Coates in Ionia on April 15, 1916.  They
celebrated their golden anniversary in 1966.  He was a member of the First
Baptist Church and Modern Woodman of America.

He worked for Standard Oil Co. and C & O Railroad and later joined the Ionia
Fire Department where he worked for 19 years.  He retired in 1962.

Survivors include his wife, Emily; two sons, Robert and Kenneth, both of Ionia;
two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Anita) Reynolds and Mrs. James (Mary) Lewis, both
of Ionia; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie
Coolsen, of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Hazel Coates, of Long Lake, Mrs. Jessie Beebe and
Mrs. Muyr Minaker, both of Ionia.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Leddick Funeral Home with
the Rev. Carl Hausermann of the First United Methodist Church officiating. 
Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.  A memorial fund has been established
for the Michigan Heart Association.  Contributions may be left at the funeral
home.  The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home today
from 7 to 9.
