Beckhorn Harold Gilbert Beckhorn, 28, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beckhorn of 705 Lafayette street, died at the Ionia County Memorial hospital shortly before noon Tuesday. He was removed to the hospital last Saturday after an illness of a week. He had been in ill health since he was a child. He attended the Ionia public schools except for a time when he was nine years of age when he underwent major surgery at the University of Michigan hospital. For a number of years he had been employed at the Kress Grocery at the corner of Morse and Lincoln avenue, and since August, 1945, was employed in the mechanical department of the Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard. Active in Ionia softball circles, Mr. Beckhorn served for several years as president of the Ionia Softball association and this year was manager of the Trojan Athletic Wear softball team in the Ionia softball league. He had acted as treasurer of the association in the past and had assisted as umpire on a number of occasions. Survivors besides the parents are two sisters, Mrs. Anita Reynolds of Ionia and Mary at home; two brothers, Robert and Kenneth of Ionia; and his paternal grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Harvey Beckhorn, 455 Lafayette street. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Boynton funeral home. The Rev. J. Lee Lewis, pastor of the Ionia Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be at Highland Park cemetery. SATURDAY - JUNE 12, 1948 HAROLD G. BECKHORN Services for Harold G. Beckhorn, 28, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beckhorn, 705 Lafayette street, were held from the Boynton funeral home Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Dr. J. Lee Lewis, pastor of the First Baptist church, read the service interment was in Highland Park cemetery His bearers were Frederick Gellendin, Richard Coates, Harry Coates, William Coates, Faye Beebe and Robert Hamblin. Mrs. Millie Gordon, Mrs. James Wright and Mrs. Purl Johnson were in charge of the floral arrangements. The Trojan softball team of which Mr. Beckhorn was manager and the men from the mechanical department of the Ionia Sentinel-Standard, where he was employed attended the service in a body. Attending the services from away were Mr. and Mrs. William Coates of Flint, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Heether of Detroit, Fred Marquette of Durand, Mrs. William Todd, Fred Todd, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coulson and Mrs. Dora Barker of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Marie McCarn of Evart, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wright and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Shetterly of Lansing, Mrs. Glen Ackerson and Mrs. Delbert Johnson of Palo, Mrs. Herbert Attenberger of Muir, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Huey of Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Orwig of Six Lakes. Mr. Beckhorn died at the Ionia County Memorial hospital shortly before noon Tuesday. He had been a patient there since Saturday after being ill for a week.
