He was born in Lynch, Kentucky on May 14, 1937 the son of Melvin and Ruby Parris Beckler. Gene served his country in the US Air Force from 1954 to 1958. While stationed in Maine he met and married Alphonsine T. Albert on September 1, 1958 in Madawaska, Maine. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 101 of Greenville, St. Charles Catholic Church, a judo instructor while in the US Air Force, a football coach at St. Charles for 7 years and was employed at Frigidaire (Electrolux) for 32 years.Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening living life to the fullest. He is survived by his wife ‘Al’ of Greenville, his children, John and Lynn Beckler of Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, Gene A. and Sharyl Beckler of Anderson S.C., Judy Beckler and fiancé Ben Bowser of Greenville and David Beckler of Stanton, his grandchildren, Jeremy, Jeffrey, Rachel, Amanda, Scott and Tara, his brothers and sisters, Daniel and Marilyn Beckler of Washington, Illinois, Mildred and Dan Paepke of Pierson, Henry and Nancy Beckler of Luray, Virginia, Mitchell and Kathy Beckler of Ft. White FL , Brenda and James Hughes of Luray VA, Jo-Elaine and Troy Golden of Cumberland, KY, Patricia and Sidney Bush of Roanoke, VA and Frank Beckler of Lexington, KY , his sisters in law, Ruth and Dale Wanink of Belding, Virginia and Jesse Seward of Sheridan and Nancy and Bill Baker of Peoria, IL, and several nieces and nephews. His parents and his sister Ruth Ann Beckler preceded him in death. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church on Thursday May 10 2007 at 10 AM with Father Phil Salmonowicz as celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens with military honors provided by Post # 101 of the American Legion. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM with a vigil service at 7: 30 PM. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Charles Scholarship Fund or Flat River Community Library.
