Beckwith, 90, a former resident of Ionia, died Saturday in a rest home near Charlevoix. Born in Muskegon, June 7, 1887, she made her home in Ionia, after she married Raymond B. Beckwith near Ionia in 1912. The couple made their home at one time on Union Street. He preceded her in death in 1921, and was buried in High Park cemetery, east of Ionia. Mrs. Beckwith was a graduate of Olivet college, and received her master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan. She served as an educator and superintendent of public schools in Cleveland and Lorain, Ohio, before moving to Charlevoix about ten years ago to be near a daughter’s family. Surviving is a son, Forrest of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. Murton (Janice) Bush of Long Island, N.Y., and a sister Mrs. Inez Gran of Oxford, Ohio, as well as eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services was at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Winchester funeral home in Charlevoix, but graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ionia’s Highland Park cemetery with Steven Pearson, assistant to the pastor at First Presbyterian church, officiating.
