Beebe, 91, of Ionia, died at Heartland Health Care Center, in Ionia on March 20, 1998. Born to Joseph and Agatha Dubinykas in Grand Rapids, Beebe was raised in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School. She was married to Russel L. Beebe, July 14, 1941, by Rev. Charles Coughlin, the popular Detroit radio personality in the 1930’s, at Shrine of the Little Flower, Royal Oak. After the wedding, the couple set sail across lake Michigan in the Milwaukee Clipper. Upon returning from their honeymoon, the Beebe’s resided on Morse St. from 1941 to 1944; E. Main St. 1944 to 1957; E. Lincoln and Long Lake 1957; and moved to Horizon Drive, Tranquil Hills, Ionia, in 1958. Mr. Beebe, who owned and operated Beebe TV and Radio Service for 30 years on Main Street in Ionia until his retirement in 1968, died March 20, 1990. In August, 1994, Mrs. Beebe took up residency at the Wilson home adult care facility. After fracturing a hip in April 1996, she was admitted to Heartland Health Care Center where she lived until her death. An uncomplicated, pleasant lady, Mrs. Beebe loved Ionia. Having enjoyed reading the Sentinel-Standard and listening to WION, she was keenly interested in what was happening in Ionia. At home, she kept busy cooking, sewing, and gardening. Survivors include her cousins, Gerald Smilgus of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico; Mrs. Marion Luke of Del Rio, Texas; and Sister Marina Hernandez of St. Louis, Missouri. A graveside service will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Grand Rapids, at a later date with Rev. Edward Kalamenek officiating. She was buried beside her mother, who died September 17, 1963. Those who knew her will fondly remember Elda Beebe. Arrangements are being handled by Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.
