Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 23 Jan 1942

Funeral services for Spencer Beecher, 66, for 22 years a steward at Michigan
state hospital in Ionia, were conducted Thursday at 1:30 o’clock from the Ionia
Methodist church.  Rev. A. J. Westmaas of the Presbyterian church conducted the
service.  Beecher died Monday afternoon following a stroke suffered on Friday,
January 9.  He had been in a coma since the stroke.

Active bearers were H. J. MacKnight, Steward at Coldwater Home and Training
school; J. E. Burnett, steward at the Ypsilanti state hospital; E.T. Smith,
steward at Lapeer state home and training school; Bartlett Wager, steward at
Pontiac state hospital; V. T. Bonfoey, steward at Kalamazoo state hospital and
J. A. Crawford, steward at Traverse City state hospital.  Men from many other
state institutions acted as honorary bearers.

Floral tributes were in charge of the wives of the active bearers and Mrs.
Leonard Swanson presided at the organ.  Employees of the Michigan state hospital
in Ionia attended the service in a group.
