Behan, 59, who had been a resident of Portland for the past six years, died at an Ann Arbor hospital early last week, of a complication of diseases. The remains were taken directly to Petoskey, his former home, where funeral services were held Friday forenoon. Mr. Behan had been confined to his home in this village for several weeks on account of illness. Early last week he was removed to Ann Arbor, where examination showed he was suffering from a ruptured appendix. An operation was performed, following which he contracted pneumonia. His death occurred a short time thereafter. When Mr. Behan and his family moved to Portland, “Pat,” as he was widely called, was employed as a salesman for the J. C. Farley Co., a Grand Rapids dry goods house. He located here because this village was conveniently located in his territory and was suitable for his headquarters. When the government started the CCC camps Mr. Behan was appointed as camp director at West Branch, where a camp was being established. He continued there until last spring when he was transferred to a similar project near Atlanta, Mich. When Mr. Behan was a young man he went to work in the lumber camps of Northern Michigan and worked up to several clerical positions with various lumbering concerns. It was this knowledge of camp routine and management that put him in a position to be chosen for the important work he had with the CCC organization. During the years the family has lived in this village they have made many friends, all of whom were saddened at the news of Mr. Behan’s death. Surviving are the widow and nine children: Mrs. E. J. Turnell and Gerald Behan, Bay City; Miss Katherine Behan, Lansing; Frank, Patrick Jr., Dorothy, Pauline, Geraldine and Owen Behan, Portland.
