Lake Odessa Wave, 4 Jan 1940

Alonzo L. Belcher, one of the two last surviving Civil war veterans in Lake 
Odessa, passed away at his home today (Thursday) at the age of 93, having 
passed that birthday on July 23rd last.

About a week ago Mr. Belcher was taken with a chill and has been confined to 
his bed since with pleuro-pneumonia which ended his life today.

A nurse and his son Harold have cared for him in his last years although sons 
in Chicago have visited him often and assisted when needed.  About six or seven 
years ago he fell and fractured one of his hips but recovered from that so that 
he got around the house and down town occasionally with the aid of crutches.

Arrangements have not been made yet, awaiting the arrival of a son from Chicago 
but it is likely that a military service will be conducted by the American 
Legion, Sunday afternoon.
