E. H. Humphrey gave the sermon. The American Legion acted as escort and gave a military burial service at Lakeside cemetery. Obituary: Another old soldier has answered the final Bugle Call. Alonzo I. Belcher was born at Tracey N. Y., on July 23, 1846, and passed away January 4, 1940. When about five years of age, his parents came to Michigan and after moving several times they purchased a farm near Portland, Danby township, Ionia county. His father and oldest brother enlisted with him in the 27th Michigan Infantry and they both died in the service. After serving for 18 months he was mustered out and took his father’s place to support several younger brothers and sisters. In 1871 he was married to Alinda LaMour at Portland and eight children were born, as follows: George of New Orleans, La., Charles and William of Woodstock, Ill, Oliver and Robert of Chicago, and Harold in Lake Odessa. A daughter Cora and son Claude have preceded him. He moved his family to Sherman, Wexford county in about 1884 and came to Lake Odessa in 1902, where he has since resided. Mrs. Belcher died in 1929. Besides the six sons there are eight grandchildren and three great- grandchildren, a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends to mourn his departure.
