(Barney) Belcher, 65, World War I Veteran was found dead Thursday forenoon at his cottage at Jordan Lake Ionia State Police and coroner Wallace Jackson investigated and said death was caused from self inflicted gun shot wounds and the time was between seven and eight o'clock, Thursday morning. The cottage was surrounded by water and authorities were asked to investigate when they failed to see him out. Barney moved here with his parents Alonzo and Alinda Belcher from Sherman, Michigan in 1907 and spent his life here with exception of eight years when employed by Western Union in Chicago but retired last year. Surviving are two brothers, Oliver of Grand Rapids and William D. of Woodstock, Illinois. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 at the Pickens Funeral Chapel under auspices of the LaVerne Demaray Post American Legion. Burial in Lakeside cemetery with Rev. A. J. Pitman officiating.
