The article swallowed was the pendant of a gutta-percha earring and it was taken into one of the lungs. Nothing was thought of it for a while but it finally began to trouble the young girl not a little. Dr. Alton treated her and it was thought the article had been dislodged. One day, however, in a fit of coughing the substance was ejected and it was thought she would get along all right, and she did for a time; but death finally resulted from the effects of it on Thursday last and burial was made in Portland cemetery on Saturday.
