The Belding Banner, 24 May 1916

The remains of Tiberius B. Belding were brought here Monday from Minneapolis,
Minn., where he died last Friday, for burial in the Otisco cemetery.  His
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Perrin, with whom he has been living,
accompanied the remains here.  Mr. Belding had been in failing health for the
past two years, his last serious illness, however, being of short duration.  Mr.
Belding was 78 years old and was born in Ashfield, Mass., September 1838, coming
to Otisco with his parents when two years old, along with other early settlers –
Joseph Fiske, John Shaw, Nathaniel Fiske, Loren Benedict and others.  His father
built to the old house which still stands opposite the Otisco cemetery just
north of Cook’s Corners, where he spent a number of years of his young life.

After his marriage at the age of 24 years to the Eliza King, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Gilbert King, they went West, after living on a farm near Greenville, and
for many years he was engaged in farming and also in the hotel business at
Groton, South Dakota, which proved successful in every way.

For the past 20 years he has made annual trips to the city visiting relatives
and friends here and in other parts of Michigan, making his stay of a few weeks
a very enjoyable one for himself and others whom he met.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Tuesday at 2 o’clock p.m., where a
large number of relatives and old friends came to pay their last respects.  Rev.
W.E. Doty officiated and the pallbearers, Henry J. Leonard, Thoa. Bracken, Levi
Tuttle, Albert E. Weter, Mark H. Brown and W.C. Spicer, escorted the remains to
the cemetery.
