Born in Ohio February 25, 1842, Mr. Bellamy accompanied his parents north into Michigan 12 years later. They first settled in Kent county and later moved in Ionia and chose the little creek three miles west of Ionia as the site of their house. For 74 years this has been his home and the little stream of water has been known for years as Bellamy’s creek. Near this home were the sites of the sawmill and the lumber mill erected and operated by him before the Civil war. He saw the choicest of Ionia county’s standing timber cut down ad sawed out in his mill, but he ceased to operate this 40 years ago when timber grew scarce. The four mill turned out the last barrel of flour in 1906. Seven years ago the mill was torn down. The vicinity of the mill is still known as Bellamy’s mill and is referred to as a measure of distance to points west of Ionia. Mr. Bellamy was active in agricultural industries of the vicinity and one of the charter members of the Live Arbor of Gleaners. After giving up his manufacturing he took a great interest in farming and was active in this enterprise in spite of his advanced years. Mr. Bellamy never married. He leaves three sisters, Alice and Adeline, who live with him, and Mrs. Horace Rowley, of Ionia. A brother, Henry, died in the Civil war. He also leaves two nieces, Miss Lucia Bellamy, of Ionia, and Mrs. O. L. Buche, of Lake Odessa. Rev. Herbert G. Hurrell will conducted the funeral services from the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.
