Aug. 21, 1896 M.D.L. Bemis, of Easton, died on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1896, and was buried in the Easton cemetery Thursday, aged 72 years, 4 months, and 17 days. Mr. Bemis came to his sudden death while drawing grain rakings into his barn. He attempted to step on a beam I n the barn from the loaded wagon; he missed the beam, and fell on it, receiving internal injuries, from which he died in about an hour. He was born in Massachusetts, March 23rd, 1824. He was married to Eliza Stafford in 1847. To this union were born three children, one died when young, and two are living, Charles L., superintendent of the Ionia city schools, and Wallace W., who is well known as a school teacher, and also a popular farmer in Easton township. Mr. Bemis' first wife died September 27th 1854. He was again married, the second time to Ellen C. Gunn, in 1855. To this union were born two children, one daughter who is married to Joseph McCord, in Easton, and one son, Arthur, who is the proprietor of the Carson City Gazette. Mr. Bemis moved into Michigan in 1863, located in Easton in which town he lived until his death. In his death the township of Easton lost a good citizen. Mr. Bemis succeeded in giving all of his children a good education; the three sons graduated in college, and all are making good use of their education. The funeral services were conducted by Rev.
