Benedict, well known Midland resident, died at 4:20 a.m. July 3, at his home in Midland. He had been in ill health for some time. Born Jan. 20, 1880, in Orange township, Ionia county, Mr. Benedict had been a Midland County resident for 52 years. He went to work in Marker’s General Store at Edinville and later bought a grocery store at Hope which he operated for 20 years. He then went to Midland where he was employed as manager of Lee and Cady, wholesale grocery distributors, for eleven years. Upon leaving Lee and Cady he purchased a grocery store at Posyville which he operated for ten years, retiring three years ago. Mr. Benedict is survived by his wife, Clara; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Schwartz of Midland and Mrs. Lucille Snider of Elkton, four grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Nora Long of Lowell. A sister, Mrs. Stella Willett, of Lyons, and a brother, Arton Benedict, of Ionia, preceded him in death. Funeral service was held Sunday from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Midland. Rev. W.A. Rook officiated and burial was in Midland Cemetery. Mrs. Nora Long of Lowell and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Van Amburg of Portland attended the funeral.
