Ionia Sentinel – 1 November 1967
Douglas R. Benedict, 39, of 3480 Sayles road, Ionia, was found dead at his 
home by Ionia state police on Tuesday afternoon.  Ionia officers said Benedict 
had taken an overdose of medication including sleeping pills.  He had been 
dead several days, Coroner Dale Kauffman reported.  State police said they had 
gone to the Benedict home accompanying Mrs. Benedict to obtain her clothing.  
A divorce suit was then pending in the Ionia County circuit court.

Born May 24, 1928 in Grand Rapids, Benedict was the son of Barton Benedict and 
Elizabeth Beck Benedict.  He was an employee of Ionia State Hospital for 
several years.  Surviving are his wife, Janet, two daughters, Pamela and Randi 
both at home; his parents of Grand Rapids and grandmother Mr. Margaret Beck of 
Ionia.  Funeral services will be Friday at 1 pm at Myers funeral home.  
Interment will be in Balcom cemetery.
