Benedict was born in Mass., Oct. 13, 1816, and had been a resident of Michigan since her marriage in 1837, except for the short time she lived in Wisconsin. The family came to Ionia in 1871; the husband and father, Archibald Benedict, died in 1880, since which time Mrs. Benedict has resided at her home on Lincoln avenue. She was the mother of eleven children, five of which survive her: Mrs. Lucy M. Coleman, Mrs. Mary B. Warner, Frank W., Joel R. and Kate L. Benedict. In her girlhood she united with the Methodist church, and afterwards joined the Baptist church with her husband. She lived a quiet, consistent Christian life, very devoted and self-sacrificing as a wife and mother. She died on Jan. 26, having been in feeble health for the past three years. At the funeral service on Tuesday afternoon the singers were Miss Winnifred Hearsey and Miss Della Waterbury. Pastor Martin spoke from the text, “At evening time it shall be light.” The interment was in Balcom cemetery, her two sons named above, with grandsons, W. Archibald and Richard, acting as bearers.
