Jan. 14, 1980 FORMER DOCTOR DIES MUNCIE, IND.- Dr. Loren D. Benedict, 92, who served as a physician in Ionia for more than 50 years and is formerly of 138 E. Main St., Ionia, died Sunday in Muncie. He was born in Ionia in 1887, the son of the late Abel and Harriett LeValley Benedict. He was Osteopath in Ionia since 1913, having the longest continuous practice in the city when he retired in 1967. Dr. Benedict graduated from Ionia High School in 1908 and studied medicine at Still College of Osteopathy in Des Moines, Iowa. After finishing his education, Dr. Benedict set up a practice in Lansing in 1911, and moved his practice to Ionia 1913. He married Mary Hall on Dec. 13, 1913, and she preceded him in death Sept. 11, 1979. In addition to his long medical career in Ionia, Dr. Benedict was one of the founders of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Katherine Hargreaves of Muncie and Virginia Gauger of Rochester, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev.'s A. Eugene Thompson and Clifford Owens officiating. Dr. Benedict will lie in repose at the Myers-Roetman Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Wednesday, when he will be taken to the church. Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Lincoln Avenue Baptist church organ fund.
