G. Benedict. He died very suddenly Saturday afternoon from apoplexy. His funeral occurred on Tuesday from his late residence. The service was conducted by Rev. J. Donnell, assisted by Rev. John Coe, an old friend of the deceased. The text of the very able sermon was the following: “There is but a step between me and death,” I Samuel XX:3. “For me to live in Christ, and to die is gain.” A biographical sketch was then given of the life of deceased, from which we learn that Mr. Benedict was born in Madison Co., N.Y. in 1814, and was accordingly at the time of his death, 66 years of age. He removed to Oakland Co., in this state, in 1859, then removed to Janesville, Wis., where he located on a farm. Subsequently he removed to Marquette, where he engaged in the iron business, in connection with J. Burt of Detroit. In 1861 he removed to this county, where he resided until the time of his death. He was married in 1837 to the companion who survives him. Nine children were born to these parents, six of whom are living. Deacon Benedict had been a member of the Baptist church for 42 years, and was highly esteemed by the members of the church in this city.
