Benedict, 67, who has been a practicing dentist at West Branch after having been in practice in Ionia for many years, died at his home Wednesday evening following a heart attack. Dr. Benedict had been ill with a heart ailment for several years and had suffered a number of attacks over a considerable period. Dr. Benedict attended the Ionia public schools and completed his required course in dentistry at the University of Michigan returning to Ionia to practice. With his family he moved to West Branch about twenty years ago to establish his practice of dentistry there. He was born in Ionia township May 2, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Benedict. Later they made their home on Jones street in Ionia. His closest relation in Ionia county is a cousin, Joel Benedict of Saranac. From 1921 to 1927 Dr. Benedict served two terms as a member of the Ionia city board of education. Survivors include his wife the former Margaret McBain, formerly an Ionia school teacher and two sons, Gordon of Pennsylvania and Gillis of Detroit, both of whom are married. Funeral services will be conducted at West Branch Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with burial services in Ionia Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Highland Park cemetery.
