Bengel, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. She was born on January 26, 1924 in Pewamo, MI the daughter of Conrad and Mary (Ott) Werner. Mrs. Bengel was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Resurrection Choir and a Eucharistic minister. She was a volunteer at the American Red Cross. Monica married Edward Bengel on October 30, 1946 and they were married for 49 years. She was the youngest of 11 children. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Edward Bengel; grandson, Joshua Bengel; great grandson, Caleb Bengel; 11 siblings. Surviving are her children, Mary Jean (Michael) Frye, Diane Bengel, Daniel (Joann) Bengel, John (Cheri) Bengel, Steve Bengel, and Doug (Joni) Bengel; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Larry King at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 16, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Flohe Foundation or the charity of one's choice.
