Rita G. Benjamin, 87, of 205 Prairie Street, Lyons, died Saturday evening in 
Ionia Manor.  She was born Rita Sherman on July 25, 1900, in Island of the 
Pines, The Philippines.  She attended Central Michigan University and taught in 
Lake Odessa and Rockford.  She was married to Ned Halsted in 1932; he died in 
1956.  She was married to Fred Benjamin in 1963; he died in 1964.  She lived in 
the Lyons-Muir-Ionia area for more than 80 years and was a member of Lyons 
Baptist church for more than 43 years.

Surviving are: a stepson, Clifford Halsted of Muir; a stepdaughter, Doris 
Conklin of Lansing; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great 
great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Lyons Baptist Church, with 
the Rev. Paul Carmichael officiating.  Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery.  A 
memorial has been established for Lyons Baptist Church, in care of Hull 
Memorial Chapel, which made arrangements.  Visitors may call at the funeral 
home after noon Monday, all day Tuesday and until service time Wednesday.
