Benjamin, who passed away at the Deaconess home in Grand Rapids, Sunday morning, were brought to Portland, Tuesday, and funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Smith, Tuesday afternoon, in charge of Rev. J. H. Bancroft. Burial was made in Portland cemetery beside her husband, the late George Benjamin, who died many years ago. Mrs. Benjamin was past 80 years of age and for a number of years had made her home at Grand Rapids. Before going to that city she was one of Portland’s most prominent and well known ladies. Having identified herself with the work of the W. C. T. U. in early life her efforts won her the commendation of that organization and for over thirty years she retained the presidency of that order in the firth district. She had also been honored with the presidency of the state organization and was parliamentarian of the national body. In carrying out the duties of these offices she met and became friends with many prominent people from all over the nation, retaining these friendships until her death. Her son, Glenn Benjamin, who was at her beside when death came, is the only surviving near relative.
