Benjamin, 87, of Saranac died June 10, 1997. He was born Dec. 24, 1909 in Saranac, the son of Frank and Agnes (DeGroot) Benjamin. He was a graduate of Saranac High School. He married June Curtis on Aug. 9, 1946 in Alto. He built, owned and operated Midway Motel of Ionia from 1953-69. He was a member of Saranac Community Church. He loved golf and bowling and was active in local leagues. He is survived by his wife, June Benjamin of Saranac; two sons, Paul (Judy) Benjamin of Saranac and Gerald (Ruth) Benjamin of Ionia; two sisters, Jewell Swanburg of Florida and Anna Baker of Holt; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Sherle. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Saranac Community Church with Rev. Stanley Hagemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Saranac Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.
