Bennett died at his home on Yeomans street, Saturday night at 8:30 of dropsical heart trouble, resulting in paralysis. Mr. Bennett has been a sufferer for three years and for the past four months has been confined to his bed. However, he had been hopeful to the last, saying only a short time ago, that if he could get through this winter he could live another year. He would have been 78 years old had he lived till June. Mr. Bennett was one of the old residents of the county, having come here from his birthplace, Milo, New York, in 1858. He arrived on Thanksgiving day after driving the entire distance. He settled on the farm in Orange, now owned by Wm. Hinds and lived there for a number of years. He afterwards moved to Ionia, where he practiced as a veterinarian up to the last three years of his life. He is survived by a widow and four daughters, Mrs. C. W. Stilson, of this city, Mrs. A. P. Crell, of Grand Rapids; Mrs. S. J. Barkwell, of Greenville, and Miss Lotta, at home. The funeral service will be conducted from the residence at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, interment in Balcom cemetery. The remains can be viewed at the home Tuesday, from ten until one o’clock.
