Helen M. Bennett, 77, of Ferndale died Saturday, Jan. 6, 1996, at Ionia County 
Memorial Hospital.  She was born Helen May Harris on Oct. 13, 1918 in 
Richmond, the daughter of Johnson and Martha (Ogden) Harris.  She graduated 
from McKenzie High School in Detroit in 1937.  She married John C. Bennett in 
Detroit and they moved to Ferndale in 1954.  She was an avid bowler and 
enjoyed camping.  She was also a member of the Drayton Avenue Presbyterian 
Church in Ferndale.

She is survived by two daughters, Joan (Daryle) Fountain, of Ionia, and Judith 
(Robert) Dobbs, of New York state; son Robert Bennett, of Florida; sisters: 
Marie Archibald, of Novi, and Dorothy (William) Woodmancy, of Harbor Beach; 
two brothers; Robert Harris, of Novi, and Norman Gerald Harris, of Milan; and 
numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12 at the 
Drayton Avenue Presbyterian Church in Ferndale with Rev. James Faile 
officiating.  Interment will be in the Drayton Avenue Presbyterian Church 
Columbarium.

At the family’s request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made 
to the Drayton Avenue Presbyterian Church Tribute Fund.  Envelopes are 
available at the church or the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia, which is in charge 
of arrangements.
