Bennett, 70, of 249 Robinson Street, Lyons, died Saturday morning at his residence after a short illness. He was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Matherton, the son of William and Phoebe (Pritchard) Bennett. He attended Perrinton Public Schools and worked as a self-employed carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a member of Lyons-Muir VFW Post 4646. He was married to Thelma Harger and they resided in Lyons for the past 26 years. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; two sons, Rick Bennett of Lyons and Bill Bennett of Alabama; two daughters, Judy King of Portland and Dianne Weigandt of Saginaw; one stepbrother, Stanley Preston of Ionia; 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two nephews. Three brothers, one sister and a son preceded him in death. Visitation will be held at the Hull Memorial Chapel in Muir all day Monday and until the time of services on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. at the Hull Memorial Chapel in Muir, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Burial will follow in East Plains Cemetery.
