Bennett, age 83, of Belding, passed away at The Laurel’s of Kent nursing home in Lowell early Tuesday morning, Feb. 18, 2009. She was born on March 12, 1925 in Matherton, the daughter of Albert Alvin and Lillian Mae (Bennett) Werner. Virginia attended Hubbardston area schools. She married William R. Bennett who preceded her in death in 1971. She was dedicated to raising her family and also worked for many years at the Chrysler Motors plant in Lyons as a press operator. She enjoyed several pastimes including, playing euchre, fishing, gardening, B.I.N.G.O. and was a “world class garage saler”. She was a past member of the Eastern Star and attended Shiloh Community Church. Virginia will be remembered by her dear family including her sons William (Diane) Bennett of Escanaba, Russ (Jenny) Bennett of Belding; grandchildren Daphne (Russ) Orr of Howard City, James (Julie) Fox of Pearson, Anita (Matt) Sevcik of Green Bay, Wis., Daniel Bennett of Escanaba, Melynie Bennett of Belding and Brandon Bennett of Belding; four great-grandchildren; siblings Richard (Janice) Werner of Ionia, Alvin (Carol) Werner of Coloma and Wilma Miller of Ionia; a son-in-law James Fox of Howard City; a sister-in-law Dorothy Werner of Palo and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Barbara Fox; siblings Irene Pearson, Marie Kirk, Betty Ackley and Donald Werner and a dear friend and companion of many years, Robert Tiffany. Visitation will take place on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday at noon with Pastor Kendall Harger officiating. Visitation will also take place on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment with graveside services will take place in the spring at East Plaines Cemetery in Matherton.
